Ines was a beautiful young Roman woman born into a noble family. From a young age, she was courted by many wealthy and influential young patricians. After rejecting them one by one, claiming she was betrothed to Christ, she was reported to the civil authorities for defying the emperor's orders.
In response to her refusal, Ines was sent from the temple to a brothel, exposed among the prostitutes in Piazza Navona. Hagiographic accounts tell how Ines, through divine protection, managed to preserve her purity in such a situation.
This ultimately led to her being condemned to death at just 13 years old. She was first taken in chains to be burned at the stake, but the flames did not harm her. She was then executed by beheading.
